Por ejemplo, aunque los que voten son los franceses, todos llevamos una temporada en las elecciones francesas, de las que hemos oído todos los tópicos del repertorio: desde el de la "grandeur" al de la cuna de la democracia, desde el fracaso del estado del bienestar hasta el machismo de los y las que piensan que la presidencia de Francia es un cargo demasiado grande para las habilidades de una mujer. Lo único interesante de la primera vuelta de estas elecciones es el índice de participación: un 80%. Lo que muestra que los franceses, a diferencia de los españoles, aún están interesados en el sistema democrático por el cual se gobiernan. Y aunque las diferencias entre izquierda y derecha que, aparentemente, representan Royal y Sarkozy se vengan a materializar en medidas políticas bastante similares, el esgrimir las etiquetas izquierda y derecha como si fueran irreconciliables, da la apariencia de una diferencia y, por ello, genera la ilusión de que los votantes van a elegir entre dos modelos de sociedad, cosa radicalmente falsa porque sólo hay un modelo y sobre lo que deciden los votantes es sobre quién lo va a gestionar y, por tanto, quién va a colocar a sus mesnadas en los cargos públicos correspondientes. No parece que los jóvenes parados, los descendientes de los inmigrantes que malviven en los guetos decrépitos de los cinturones urbanos y todos los que se han quedado fuera del bienestar blanco de clase media, estén esperanzados con la victoria de uno de los candidatos, en teoría la candidata de la izquierda, como vía de solución para sus miserables condiciones de vida y de desesperanza. De ahí que las religiones, las tradicionales y las civiles, hayan tomado el relevo como programas de convivencia social, sea el Islam político cada vez más radicalizado e integrista, bien sean los nacionalismos de corte racista y fascista, ambos profundamente antidemócratas.
Otro ejemplo, éste simpático, es el caso del plagio de las 125 medidas de gobierno que el think tank del PSOE canario "tomó prestadas" o "intertextualizó" del programa del Partit dels ciutatans de Cataluña. Porque en política, copiar, copian todos, incluso los más conspicuos defensores de los derechos de autor. Copia la propia SGAE al tiempo que extorsiona sin piedad a bares y locales que osan poner la música de los artistas que ellos dicen defender. Aquí, en el caso del plagio canario, el cabeza de turco ha sido Juan Romero Pí, un catedrático de escuela universitaria de la ULL que suele esconder lo de la escuela universitaria para crear el efecto de que es catedrático de universidad y aparentar que es más de lo que realmente es. Como este señor no se caracteriza por su simpatía ni por los afectos que suscita a su alrededor, todos se han apresurado a ponerlo en la picota hasta hacerlo dimitir de su cargo de presidente de la Zona Especial Canaria, una especie de amnistía fiscal para empresas que se instalen en Canarias y creen empleo en las islas. A Romero Pí le han sacado hasta su (muy remoto) pasado trotskista, como si ello explicara lo del copi-pega de las medidas. Otra cosa que no se ha aclarado tampoco es si las medidas, por muy copiadas que sean, son buenas o adecuadas para su aplicación en Canarias. En fin, que Romero Pí ha llegado al tope de su incompetencia y ha tenido que salir de la carrera política, que él veía ya fulgurante, como deshonesto e inepto. Todo un palo para su descomunal ego. Y un palo injusto, pero así es el navajeo político que llaman democrático.
Como no hay dos sin tres, la náusea desemboca directamente en vómito cuando se oye hablar -es un decir- a los candidatos y responsables de los dos partidos que se reparten el trozo mayor de la tarta política canaria, es decir, los de ATI-CC y los del PP. El cinismo, la mentira y la hipocresía son las marcas de la casa, engrasadas por el caciquismo de toda la vida que la democracia no ha logrado aún erradicar en las islas. Entre otras cosas porque el sistema electoral es profundamente antidemocrático al cargarse de raíz el principio de "una persona, un voto" que, se suponía, era un pilar básico de la democracia. No. En Canarias, hay votos de "primera clase" -los de las islas de Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, La Palma, Gomera y El Hierro- y votos de "tercera clase" -los de las islas de Gran Canaria y Tenerife-. Los votos de "tercera" representan al 84'4% de la población de las islas (1.431.656 habitantes) y "pesan" lo mismo que el 15'6% (262.821 habitantes) de los afortunados votantes de "primera clase". Con estas reglas del juego, el caciquismo se hace endémico en las islas, inhibe el desarrollo de la participación ciudadana y extermina de raíz el interés y la ilusión por la política como instrumento de mejora de las condiciones colectivas de vida. Los negocios, especialmente los grandes negocios (sea el gas, sea el mercado eólico, sean las numerosas obras públicas, sean los enchufes directos de las clientelas en las instituciones, sean los campos de golf o los grandes hoteles a construir en los escasos metros de costa aún no urbanizados, y un largo etcétera), constituyen las líneas maestras de las políticas públicas al menos desde el año 1993 y los gestores públicos, electos y nombrados, son empresarios y hombres de negocios que han colonizado el sector público, instituciones y, sobre todo, empresas públicas, para ir trasvasando, a veces con un descaro de juzgado de guardia, los bienes públicos a los bolsillos privados.
Lo peor es que no parece haber una alternativa clara y viable. El PSOE canario, único aspirante con posibilidades reales de acceder al poder, ha vivido tanto tiempo en connivencia con los caciques en el poder que se han hecho amigos y en estos últimos 15 años han brillado por su ausencia las críticas y el ejercicio de la oposición. Ni siquiera tenemos, como sucede en Francia, una aparente oposición entre dos modelos alternativos de sociedad: izquierda y derecha.
La única solución es llevar siempre el Primperan en el bolso. Corta el vómito de raíz.
