Carta abierta al Vicerrectorado de extensión Universitaria de la UNED
Le escribimos en relación a las IV Jornadas Interuniversitarias sobre la "Aplicación de terapias centradas en la persona", que, a merced de lo publicado en el programa de las mismas, dan espacio y el respaldo de instituciones educativas públicas a terapias pseudocientíficas, dotándolas de una autoridad y una credibilidad que podrían poner en riesgo la salud de los ciudadanos al hacer creer a éstos que pueden confiar en unas técnicas que no han demostrado científicamente su validez terapéutica.
La tendencia a considerar que cualquier terapia, por el hecho de ser milenaria, es válida, es una falacia habitual pero no por ello admisible; menos aún en unas jornadas organizadas por universidades públicas como son la UNED y la Universidad de Alcalá. La esperanza de vida media actual, muchos enteros por encima de la de hace simplemente un siglo -que decir comparada con la de hace miles de años- se debe a que tenemos una medicina basada en ciencia y no en la tradición.
Las terapias new-age, como el coaching o la arteterapia, de las que hay centenares de variantes, son rituales sin fundamento experimental,sin tan siquiera una explicación de por qué o cómo deberían funcionar,y sin más evidencias de su efectividad que el peligroso "a mi me funciona".
Caso aparte -por más grave, si cabe- es la inclusión del bioelectromagnetismo en dichas jornadas, por ser una práctica contrala que directamente hay advertencias de organismos sanitarios como la FDA estadounidense. Es un fraude que se sustenta sólo sobre un nombre rimbombante y de cariz científico -de hecho es un campo de la ciencia- para vender productos y tratamientos de efectividad nula. Pacientes decáncer han dejado de visitar a su oncólogo para ser tratados con estetipo de "terapias" que les han privado de los tratamientos probados en estudios científicos de la medicina moderna.
El peligro de realizar jornadas o actos como el que se disponen a llevar a cabo reside no sólo en que regalan su credibilidad y nombre aun colectivo de charlatanes que promociona fraudes médicos amparándose que están "centrados en la persona", sino en que promocionan conello que ciudadanos con enfermedades reales dejen de ir al médico a recibir tratamientos reales.
Confiamos en que, para futuras ocasiones, presten más atención a quécursos y jornadas se desarrollan al amparo de sus respectivas instituciones, y no permitan que las pseudociencias se apropien de subuen nombre y credibilidad para lucrarse a través del fraude,especialmente cuando lo que está en juego es un tema tan sensible como la salud.
